General secretary of DASE Dr G R Ravindranath said, “The State controlled medical seats UG, PG and Super specialty must be exempted from NEET. It is not too late for the government to conduct separate entrance test for Tamil Nadu. With the President’s assent we can still hold the entrance exams. Exemption from NEET is the right of the State”. Along with this, the Association has placed a few demands such as AIIMS and JIPMER be brought under the umbrella of NEET and besides having a single window system for admissions and counselling.
“The fee fixing committee must cap the tuition fee for private colleges and deemed universities. Last year the annual fee was hiked to Rs 22 lakh. Students who make it to the list on merit will not be able to afford this,” he said. The Association also demanded that the rank and merit list be published for more transparency. “Rank is different from merit. While giving admission we will not know on what basis a candidate was selected unless both are put out. This gives way for getting a seat after paying capitation,” Ravindranath said.
