The police arrested Gopinath, 23 and Illango, 22 for murdering Saravanan, 27, outside his house on Ellayaman Kovil Street. However, the mastermind Dharmesh, alias Karthik Raja and Manavalan, Deepan and Venkatesh, are yet to be held. Two bikes were also recovered.
On Friday, at 8.45 pm, Saravana, who worked for a private shipping company, was at home when six persons came to his house and asked him to step out. The moment he stepped out, the six attacked him with sickles and fled on two-wheelers. Meanwhile, the police sent the body to Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital for post-mortem.
Primary investigation has revealed that Saravanan may have been killed as an act of revenge as recently, at a temple festival, Saravanan had assaulted Raja.
Decomposed body found in Adyar river
The decomposed body of an unidentified man was found floating in the Adyar river near Ekkaduthangal bridge on Saturday. The man appears to be around 45 years old. The incident came to light when the police control room received a call from an unknown number.
“The victim must have fallen from the bridge two days ago. The man was wearing a dark coloured shirt and a lungi. There are no injury marks on the body, hence it does not hint at murder. We suspect the victim fell into the river in an inebriated state,” a police officer said.
The police sent the body to Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem. Efforts are on to establish the man’s identity.
