Foreign currency valued at Rs 55 lakh seized in airport

Air customs officials on Tuesday arrested three persons and recovered unaccounted foreign currency to the tune of Rs 55 lakh from them. All three were bound for Singapore.

The officials first intercepted Abdul Salam and Abdul Razak, both from Chennai around 1.30 am. The duo was carrying a tourist visa to Singapore. 

When the officials inspected a card board box in their procession, they found US Dollars and Euros to the tune of Rs 40 lakh. The passengers could not produce any documents and the amount was above the prescribed limits. Following this, the officials arrested the two and seized the cash. 

Similarly, the officials intercepted one Abdul Khan from Ramnad district. During interrogation, the officials found Euros to the tune of Rs 15 lakh concealed inside his clothes. They arrested him and seized the cash.
