The Madras High Court has sought the Dean (in-charge) of RGGGH, K Narayanaswamy, who made a personal appearance before it on Tuesday following a court direction to explain about the strike, to file an affidavit about the extent of police presence when the strike transpired.
When the petition filed by C Kumaran, a patient, who was unable to obtain treatment owing to the strike came up, Justice N Kirubakaran on appreciating the initiative taken by the Dean to defuse the situation dispensed with his further appearance. However, the Judge then directed the dean to file a reply stating that the whereabouts of the higher police officials of the State Government at the time of the strike.
Referring to the police officials who were seen in the High Court corridor in large numbers in connection with the case pertaining to the personal appearance of the Commissioner of Police, the Judge observed that when there was a road block, which had pushed the public to severe hardship, the police instead of showing interest in resolving the conflict, were busy seeking exemption of the personal appearance of their superior officer.
Justice Kirubakaran in his order said “The dean is present and answered all the queries put forth very satisfactorily. The court appreciates the co-operation in answering the queries, which have been put in public interest. His further appearance is dispensed with. The other affidavit sought for to be filed by April 4.” The attack on the duty doctor is said to be in retaliation to the failure in attending to a patient who had been brought in with multiple injuries.
