While poll manifestos are usually announced only by parties ahead of the Assembly or Parliament elections, AIADMK (Amma) candidate TTV Dinakaran, in a unique style, has promised to unveil a manifesto for the by-election. His move has amused the people and they are anxious to know what he plans to do for the constituency and the electorate.
Speaking to the media after scrutiny of his nomination, Dinakaran said, “I am searching for a house in the RK Nagar area.” The AIADMK(A) candidate revealed that, he has decided to stay in the constituency three days in a week to listen to the grievances and needs of voters and address them, if he was elected. “This is what I did when I represented Periyakulam seat in Parliament,” Dinakaran explained.
However, the AIADMK(A) spokesperson and former minister Vaigai Selvan said “For a small constituency, in the heart of old Chennai, there is nothing much that a candidate can offer other than meeting some basic and long-pending needs of residents.” He further said, “Our candidate will ensure that the just demands of the electorate are met.” He hinted that one of the major initiatives might be setting up of a Reverse Osmosis plant to meet the drinking water needs of people.
Meanwhile, veteran E Madhusudhanan who has been fielded by the AIADMK (Puratchi Thalavi Amma), has been highlighting his services to the segment when he represented it in the Assembly during 1991-1996. The veteran leader has assured to find a solution to the area’s perennial water problem and vows to address traffic issues on Tiruvottiyur and Ennore highways, construction of bridges over railway tracks to ease congestion and creation of additional educational infrastructure.
DMK candidate Maruthu Ganesh has been canvassing votes listing promises similar to those of Madhusudhanan. Meanwhile, BJP candidate Gangai Amaran wooing voters with a 40-point manifesto said “I have started my campaign and has been receiving positive response from the people.”
