Deepa’s men ask Election Commission to check draft rolls

“Around 1,000 voters, who are either dead or relocated have been included in the list. Since, this will pave way for bogus voting, the EC should instruct the officials concerned to examine the issue,” the members charged. They added that AIADMK (Amma) group has been roping in supporters from other districts and they are providing tokens to the voters. The MAD Peravai members charged, 

“Police remain passive and mute spectators. They are working hand in glove with the ruling party cadres. It is surprising that even the Election Commission is aware of such inducements provided by the parties, but it has not taken any action so far.” The petition by the Peravai, further demanded the appointment of Central government officials as duty officers to ensure transparency.

Meanwhile, the election flying squad on Friday night arrested three AIADMK (Amma) cadres for distributing brass lamps to the voters at Tiruvallur Quarters. The flying squad raided the area on Friday night and arrested Sivakumar and Prasanna. They seized 15 brass lamps from them. The squad then held Gopinath, a resident of the quarters and seized 6 brass lamps. The squad also seized two cars and one moped from the gang.

AIADMK(Amma)spokesperson C R Saraswathi on Saturday alleged that she and her supporters were attacked by the rival O Panneerselvam camp while campaigning in the R K Nagar constituency, where by-poll is to be held on April 12. The rival faction, however, has denied the charge. Saraswathi said she was scheduled to address a roadside meeting atop a four- wheeler last evening when members of the rival AIADMK (Puratchi Thalaivi Amma), including former chief minister O Panneerselvam and their candidate E Madhusudhanan, were passing through after canvassing for votes. “We had sought police permission for the meeting, therefore, we remained calm when suddenly some of them started hurling footwear, stones and bottles at us,” she said. Three of my supporters sustained injury in the incident, she claimed. However, the Panneerselvam camp denied the allegations and said a footwear and tomato were hurled at her from nearby houses  and not “from the ground level.”
