Serial artiste’s husband commits suicide in lodge

Police said R Karthikeyan (30), a resident of SVS Nagar, Valasarawalkam, killed himself by consuming poison after suffering losses in business and reportedly due to disputes with his wife Nandhini and her family. 

Karthikeyan’s parents alleged that Nandhini and her parents were torturing their son, forcing him to take the extreme step. 

Police said Karthikeyan, who owned a gym at T Nagar, married Nandhini nine months ago after he had divorced his first wife. 

However, trouble started in his family life within four months of the marriage and Nandhini moved to her father’s house. 

Police said Karthikeyan, who had sold his gym due to losses, took a room in the lodge at Virugambakkam on Saturday and had asked the room boy to bring some beverages. 

He locked the doors after the boy bought him the drinks and did not open the door for two days. Growing suspicious, the lodge owners informed the Virugambakkam police. 

Police broke open the door only to find Karthikeyan lying dead on the bed. They also found a bottle near the body. The Virugambakkam police have registered a case and are conducting inquiries with Nandhini following a complaint from his parents.

June 26, 2016: A junior artist, Neelavathy (38), who worked in the movie Madras, committed suicide by immolating herself at Tondiarpet. Police said, family disputes and frequent quarrels with her husband Victor led to the suicide.

Mar 13, 2016: TV actor Sai Prashanth (30) committed suicide by drinking poison at his residence in Chennai. Police who found a suicide note requesting not to blame anyone for his death.
