It happens mostly when you venture out in the sun between 11 am and 3 pm. Moreover, it is also important to wear proper cotton clothing during this weather. Tight fitting clothes are a big no.”
The symptoms of heat exhaustion include cramps, tiredness and extreme exhaustion, accompanied by dehydration. Dr S Ragunanthanan, Professor of Medicine, Madras Medical College noted that heat exhaustion was more common in the North and in drier regions like Andhra Pradesh.
He said, “However, geriatric population and those on psychotic drugs are more prone to heat exhaustion. We are seeing the condition among those who venture out regularly. These people require more fluids and fresh vegetables. Besides they should ensure that there is enough electrolytes in their body in the form of salts. “The best way to cool yourself is to have a bath to cool down your system whenever you feel exhausted,” he said.
