The donor Arumugam, hailing from Cuddalore, had met with a road accident recently and failed to respond to treatment.
The recipient is a 30-year-old mother, who was awaiting a heart donor. She was diagnosed with postpartum cardiomyopathy (a rare type of heart failure that occurs during pregnancy or immediately after delivery) and was under treatment.
Arumugam, was declared brain-dead on Saturday morning by doctors in Jipmer. Officials at the Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu (TRANSTAN), and the police in Puducherry and in Chennai coordinated a green corridor to aid in the transportation of the harvested organs.
