Coordinators of ‘May 17 Movement’ and Tamilar Vidiyal Katchi, in a joint-press conference on Tuesday demanded the release of 17 persons, who were arrested on Sunday for conducting a candle light vigil on the Marina. “The arrested had categorically explained that the bus’s windshield, which was claimed to have been damaged during the vigil happened due to the poor maintenance by the transport corporation and not because of those being ferried by it,” they observed.
‘May 17 Movement’ coordinators Praveen Kumar, Lena Kumar, Purushothaman, and Naveen of Tamilar Vidiyal Katchi were present at the press conference. They also announced that several movements and political outfits would join them in a protest at Valluvar Kottam on Thursday evening to condemn the state for acting at the behest of the Centre to thwart attempts to remember the genocide of Tamils.
