120 sovereigns and Rs 1.5L stolen in two house break-in incidents
In two major house-breaks in the city, 120 sovereigns of gold jewellery and a cash of Rs 1.5 lakh were looted.

At Sholinganallur, 90 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 50,000 were stolen. Software professional Iniya Krishnan, who had gone to his relative’s house, returned home on Monday morning to find his house door lock broken open. When he went inside, the bureau was also broken open and the valuables were missing. He has lodged a complaint with the Semmenchery police in this regard.
In another burglary at Purasawalkam, the burglars broke open the front door lock of the house of Jayachandran (58), when he along with his family was on a foreign tour, and looted the valuables. Police said Jayachandran had left with family for Singapore on May 16 and returned on Monday, only to see his house door broken open and the valuables kept inside missing. Jayachandran has told the Vepery police that 30 sovereigns of gold, Rs 1 lakh in cash and silver articles were stolen from his house.
Rs 2 lakh stolen from a plastic godown at Sowcarpet
Burglars broke open the shutter lock of a plastic materials godown at Narayanappan Mudhali Street, Sowcarpet and looted Rs 2 lakh kept in the cash chest. Police said Babulal, the shop owner had locked the godown on Saturday night and opened it on Monday. When he went to open the godown, he found the shutter lock broken open and Rs 2 lakh cash missing, regarding which a complaint has been lodged.
