The drive was conducted on May 31, as a part of World Anti-Tobacco Day initiatives. A senior Corporation official said 283 kg of banned tobacco products, including gutka, cigarettes and other such products were seized across the city.
“Raids were conducted across all zones in the city. A fine of Rs 63,000 was imposed. We conduct regular checks but since it was anti-tobacco day, we did an extensive raid across the city. The health inspectors have also been asked to check on the restaurants, especially near hospitals, if they serve hookah on their premises,” added the source.
The department also conducted health awareness programmes by handing out information on the harmful effects of tobacco on the body.
