The accused are all college students and have been identified as Jomy Varghese (19) of Selaiyur, Arun (22) of East Tambaram and Keerthivasan (20) of Pallikaranai. While Jomy is studying engineering at Bharath University, the other two are final-year BBA students at Madras Christian College. They have been booked on charges, including over speeding, trying to follow CM’s convoy and creating trouble.
Sources said the three youth followed Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy’s convoy for nearly three kilometres on Kamarajar Salai from Gandhi statue to Kannagi statue and was stopped by the pilot vehicle before being handed over to the police. They reportedly had come to Parrys Corner for shopping and were on their way back home.
However, when contacted, Anna Square police said the incident happened 30 minutes before the CM’s convoy passed by and the trio were arrested for negligent driving.
