8 injured as government bus collides with lorry
As many as eight persons suffered injuries, four of them seriously, when a Tiruchy-bound government bus from Kancheepuram collided head on with a lorry at a village in Tiruvannamalai on Saturday night.

The hands of two passengers were severed in the accident. While the seriously injured were admitted to the government general hospital in Chennai, others with minor injuries were admitted in district government hospital.
Police said the government bus with about 30 passengers from Kancheepuram to Tiruchy collided head-on with a lorry at Choozhamanthal village, in Tiruvannamalai district. Two passengers identified as Nandhakumar (34) and Sumathi (43), both hailing from Cheyyar, lost their hands in the accident.
Police said Vignesh (22) of Tiruchy and Amirtharaj of Kancheepuram also suffered serious injuries in the accident. Police, who rushed to the spot, shifted the injured passengers to the hospitals. Police have launched an investigation in to the accident. Police sources said rash driving could have led to the accident.
4 hurt as bikes collide near Marina
Two speeding motorbikes collided at Kamarajar Salai in the early hours of Sunday severely injuring the riders and a pillion rider. The accident took place at 2.30 am on Sunday in front of Vivekanandar Illam when one of the motorists tried to avoid a car that was going ahead and hit the bike that came in the opposite direction.
Police said that Adhikesavan was riding his bike from Lighthouse towards Anna Square, when a car parked in front of Vivekanandar Illam suddenly swered. Adhikesvan, caught unaware, tried to avoid the four-wheeler and crossed the yellow lines of the twoway traffic.
But, his bike unfortunately collided with another bike in which three youth were triple riding, towards the Lighthouse. In the impact of the collision, Adhikesavan’s bike caught fire and he suffered burns, while another bike’s rider Ibrahim fractured his leg.
The pillion riders, Ameer and Mohammed Hens, too sustained injuries. Adhikesavan is undergoing treatment at Kilpauk Hospital, while the other three have been admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH).
