Student, four others held with drugs
Shastri Nagar police arrested five youth, including a law student, for allegedly smuggling drugs. Heroin and ganja that weighed nearly 1.75 kg, were seized from them.

These smugglers were nabbed when police were checking vehicles passing through the junction of the Third and 45th avenues in Besant Nagar. When they intercepted a Honda Activa scooter, the riders, Manual Rigis (22) and Gautham Antony (22) of Mylapore, gave contradictory answers.
On suspicion, cops searched their vehicle and seized 1 kg ganja from the duo. Rs 2,500 in cash and the scooter were also recovered from them. Meanwhile, a Maruti Swift car, which appeared on the spot reversed suddenly, was chased down and stopped by the cops.
When they searched the trio in the car, two small packets of ganja (750 g) and heroin (20 g) were found in their possession. The accused have been identified as Yogaraj (28) from Shenoy Nagar, Lingeshwaran (22) from Egmore and Jashwar Singh (28) from Anna Nagar.
Apart from the drugs, Rs 650 in cash and the car were seized from them. All five have been remanded in judicial custody. Police said that all five are educated and from well-off families, one of them being a law student. They sourced the drugs from Puducherry for sale in the city so that they can make easy money.
