59-year-old woman run over by lorry

A 59-year-old woman was run over by a container lorry on Sunday night near Vanagaram. Police said that the accident took place when the deceased, Dhanalakshmi, was on her to way to attend a wedding along with her husband Ranganathan (66).

When they were nearing Vanagaram, a container lorry hit their two-wheeler from behind and in the impact both fell on the road. The lorry too lost control and ran over Dhanalakshmi killing her on the spot. Ranganathan has been admitted at Kilpauk Medical College Hospital with a fractured leg. Koyambedu police have arrested the lorry driver Mahendran (40).

Body retrieved from Cooum 

The body of an unidentified male, estimated to be 40 years old, was retrieved from the Cooum near Chintradripet Railway Station, on Monday. Police said that a passer-by Soosairaj noticed a dead body floating on the river and informed the Triplicane police on Monday morning. Cops rushed to the spot and retrieved the body. Since, there were no papers with him, his identity couldn’t be established.

Drowns 

A software engineer from Ayanavaram drowned in a water fall near Uthukottai in Tiruvallur on Sunday. Police said Ragavendran (24), son of Balaraman, a resident of Ayanavaram had gone to the waterfalls near Uthukottai along with his five friends. Police said while the group was taking bath, Raghavendran slipped and fell into a deep pit. His friends tried to save him, but their efforts went in vain. They informed the Nagalapuram police who retrieved the body with the help of fire and  rescue personnel.
