The couple, Mohan and Sarala, who were found dead in their house at Tsunami quarters, have three girl children and were running an eatery in a push cart in their locality for a livelihood. It all began on Saturday when Mohan’s sister arrived at their house from New Washermanpet.
Since Sarala did not cook lunch that afternoon, it led to a verbal duel between the couple. They seemed to have fought again after Mohan’s sister left and in a fit of rage, Mohan strangled Sarala to death. He did not tell anyone about the death and slept at the same house later that night. Their elder daughter Mahalakshmi who saw the incident mistook that her mother was sleeping.
However, Mohan was depressed about the murder and later killed himself by hanging in the restroom on Sunday morning. On information, Ennore police rushed to the spot, retrieved the bodies, and sent them to Stanley Hospital for post mortem. A case has been registered under Section 174 of the CrPC and police are also probing the angle whether both have been murdered. “Only a post mortem report will reveal the truth,” said the investigating officer.
