Convict stages suicide drama in Puzhal prison

A 45-year-old life convict kept the officials of Puzhal Central Prison on their toes by staging a suicide bid drama. The accused is identified as Kannan of Choolaimedu, who was lodged in Puzhal in 2014 after getting convicted in a rape case. On Sunday, he claimed to have swallowed a nail and acted as if he was becoming unconscious.

The inmates immediately alerted the jailer, who rushed him to hospital. After the checkup, doctors reportedly told jailer that no foreign object is found in his body.

During interrogation, Kannan allegedly admitted to having staged the suicide drama, though the exact reasons remained unclear.
