Based on the intelligence report, the Triplicane police arrested Arjunan when he apparently went to watch actor Ajith Kumar’s film Vivegam in a theatre on Anna Salai. Police sources said that Arjunan visited a private hotel on Wallajah road on August 9 and handed over a pistol with three magazines and seven 9 mm bullets to brokers. While police surrounded Gopinath (25), Kumar (52), Murugan (52) and Prakash (32) on the spot and arrested them, Arjunan managed to flee the spot. Since they did not cooperate for investigation, police collected their call records to identify and trace Arjunan.

Police said that he received the pistol from advocate Deepan, another accused in the case. Deepan is said to be an arms dealer, who illegally supplies weapons brought from the north. The police are on the lookout for Deepan.
