Police sources said, two daily wage labourers — Kumaran (32) and Shankar (33) — consumed liquor together in their locality at MGR Nagar in Kasimedu. An argument erupted between them, which rapidly turned violent. Initially, Shankar, who had become furious, attacked Kumaran with an empty liquor bottle inflicting injuries all over his body.

His wife Sandhya, who rushed to the rescue her husband, also suffered injuries in the fight.

While Shankar fled the spot immediately, Kumaran went to Shankar’s house with a wooden log. But unable to find him there, Kumaran went on a rampage attacking the women in the house, including Shankar’s mother Usha (59), and his relatives — Vasumathi (37), Saroja (35) and Anjali (32). All of them suffered injuries in the attack and were rushed to Stanley Hospital for treatment.

Following a complaint, Kasimedu police have registered a case and are on the hunt for Kumaran, who escaped after the attack. Tension prevailed in the locality due to the incident.
