Organs of accident victim donated
Purushothaman, a 40-year-old from Kolathur, who met with an accident at Uthukottai on Wednesday, was declared brain dead on Friday. Following his family’s consent, his organs were donated, which saved seven lives.

Working in a private transport company, he was also an ardent social worker. Along with a few friends, he had started a registered organisation ‘Mannin Maindhan’, which works exclusively for blood donation. They has conducted over 12 blood donation camps.
On Wednesday, he was travelling along with his friend to Tirupati on a two-wheeler when they met with an accident. Purushothaman injured his head and was immediately taken to a nearby government hospital from where he was moved to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) for further treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries two days later. “With the consent of his family members, his heart, liver, kidneys, lungs, corneas and skin were harvested and shared with government and private hospitals to save seven lives,” said Dean of the Hospital Dr Narayan Babu.
