The city police on Friday said that they would not ask motorists to show their original licence unless they break traffic rules.
“We will only stop those who violate traffic and ask for their original licences,” said a police official. “People driving drunk, jumping signals, speaking on the phone while driving and not wearing helmets will be asked to show their original documents and action will be taken against them,” he added.

The police apparently sought original licenses from motorists in many parts of the city and spread awareness about the new regulation, asking them to carry their original licences with them. “We will not harass the motorists but they should co-operate with us and follow traffic rules. We will, however, intercept suspicious vehicles,” said a senior officer
