1.5 kg gold seized at Chennai airport; two arrested
Customs officials on Thursday seized 1.5 kg of gold worth Rs 45 lakh from two men at the Chennai International Airport.

Santhilal (48) of Mumbai, who returned from Hong Kong on a tourist visa, was intercepted by Customs officials and he was found to carry 1.3 kg of jewellery hidden in his baggage. Similarly, Sheik Dawood (40) of Mumbai, who reached Chennai from Muscat, was found to be in possession of two gold bars each weighing 100 grams. Both are being investigated by the officials.
It may be noted that both the flights were originally destined for Mumbai but diverted to Chennai due to a runway mishap in Mumbai airport.
