The accused, identified as Mohammed Rasul of Pallavaram, murdered his friend-turned-foe Babu (45) of Tiruverkadu over a drunken brawl, cut off his body parts and threw them around the locality, said police. The deceased was working at a tailoring shop in Mogappair, while the accused worked at a butcher shop nearby.
During the enquiry with the shops in the locality, police found out that two workers, one from a tailoring shop and another from the meat shop, were reported missing since September 26.
Meanwhile, one of the workers Mohammed Rasul was traced to Pallavaram. Later, while enquiring about another missing person, police came to know Babu’s family lived in Tiruverkadu. But Babu used to stay in the tailor shop due to differences with his wife Janani and that he and Mohammed Rasul would often consume liquor together after work.
On suspicion, police went to Pallavaram to question Rasul, and on seeing them, he tried to flee the spot. He was chased and caught and he allegedly confessed to having murdered Babu.
Police have recovered the head of the deceased after Rasul identified the place where he dumped it.
“According to the accused, Babu often drinks and demands money for liquor from Rasul. On September 25 night, a quarrel erupted between them during which Rasul hit Babu and pushed him down.
After ensuring that he died, Rasul later butchered the legs, hands and head separately and had dumped the mutilated parts at different places in and around the locality. Babu’s family did not lodge any complaint about his missing, as they were not in touch with him, he added.
