File detailed status report on steps taken to eradicate mosquitoes: High Court

The Madras High Court today directed the Corporation of Chennai to file a detailed status report by October 12 on the steps being taken for eradication of mosquitoes and mosquito borne diseases.

The first bench, comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar gave the order on a PIL by advocate A P Suryaprakasam.

The petitioner sought a direction to the authorities concerned to issue directions forthwith to all private nursing homes and hospitals in the State to provide medical treatment to all dengue affected people and claim the cost from the government later.

The court, while referring to the counter filed by the Corporation, said it pertains to the steps taken with the December 2015 floods.

It then directed the Corporation to file a detailed report on the steps being taken to eradicate mosquitoes and mosquito borne diseases.

The bench also directed the Corporation to file a status report on steps being taken to cleanse/dredge water bodies like Buckingham canal, Adyar and Cooum rivers and also the treatment facilities available for those afflicted by mosquito borne diseases and other steps if any, taken to eradicate/ prevent/control mosquito borne diseases, by Thursday.

The bench then posted the matter for further hearing to October 13.
