The actor has been booked under three sections including threatening and hurting the complainants Shanmuga Sundaram, a realtor heading the firm Innovative Constructions and his legal adviser Prem Anand.
Police sources said that the actor entered into an agreement with the firm to construct a wedding hall in Kundrathur earlier. However, since the promoters delayed the project for many months, Santhanam reportedly cancelled the agreement and demanded his money back. While Shanmuga Sundaram returned portions of the money received, he was yet to pay him a few lakhs.
On Monday evening, Santhanam along with his manager and two others went to Shanmuga Sundaram’s office in Valasaravakkam and demanded that the remaining amount be paid. The argument developed into a physical fight in which Santhanam’s men attacked Prem Anand outside the office premises and injured him. He later filed a complaint and got treated for the injury at Vijaya Hospital.
Actor moves court for anticipatory bail
Actor N Santhanam moved the Madras High Court on Tuesday seeking anticipatory bail apprehending arrest in the alleged quarrel he had with a building contractor Shanmugasundaram. The actor in his plea submitted that he had given money to Shanmugasundaram for constructing a building. But the latter neither started the construction work nor returned the money, despite repeated reminders. On October 9, the builder invited actor Santhanam over phone for settlement talks. Believing Shanmugasundaram’s words, Santhanam went to his office. But when the talks were progressing, Shanmugasundaram and his associates attacked the actor inflicting injuries on him, he said in the plea. While he had a lodged a complaint against the contractor and his associates at the Valasarawakkam police, the contractor in turn filed a counter-complaint against him resulting in police registering an assault case against him, the plea added.
