TNPCB issues directive for Deepavali

Ahead of Diwali, the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) will be conducting awareness programmes across the state, while also measuring the Ambient Air Quality and Ambient Noise Level survey on pre-Deepavali day and the day of the festival.

The TNPCB sent out a directive on Wednesday stating that manufacturer and retailers of firecrackers and the public should adhere to the directions given by the Supreme Court. Every manufacturer should mention the details of the chemical content and noise level on the box of each fire cracker. 

The manufacture, sale or use of crackers exceeding 125 decibel (AI) or 145 decibel (C) at four metres distance from the point of bursting should be prohibited. The public should ensure that crackers are not burst between 10 pm and 6 am. 

The Board will also create awareness among the public and student community regarding the ill-effects of noise pollution and the need to celebrate the festival accident-free. 

Ambient Air Quality and Ambient Noise Level survey on pre-diwali and day of Diwali will be conducted in Chennai and other major towns such Madurai, Salem, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Dindigul, Tiruchy, Hosur, Cuddalore, Vellore and Tiruppur.
