Weather bloggers meet, discuss North East monsoon

With the North-East monsoon expected to set in this week, a group of weather bloggers met in the city on Sunday, to exchange views on the same.

Stating that it is expected for the Easterlies to set in on Tuesday or Wednesday, Sampath, a Weather Blogger, said, “The rainfall this time will be mere normal to below normal. We are not expecting it to be above normal.”

While Tamil Nadu gets an average of 45 cm rainfall during the North-East monsoon, it is expected to be around 40 cm this year, said K Srikanth, a blogger at Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikkaalam.

Stating that the meet was a first of its kind, he said, “Usually, the North-East monsoon is supposed to set in by October 20. However, it is slightly delayed this year. Last year (which saw the third worst monsoon), it was late by 10 days.”
