Prepare for monsoon, says Stalin
DMK working president MK Stalin wanted his party MLAs and (erstwhile) local body representatives to partner with people and engage in disaster preparedness ahead of the northeast monsoon.
He advised his party functionaries to identify areas prone to inundation, vulnerable to flash floods and water bodies that have not been de-silted and intimate the same to officials concerned. He also asked them to take stock of the amenities and stability of community halls and corporation schools where people would be accommodated during floods and apprise officials of the same.
Stalin said, it could be easily understood from the city roads flooded by light showers that neither Chennai Corporation nor the government was prepared to handle heavy floods in the city. He said, the government has not received funds from Centre for Cyclone Vardah or December floods damage. City corporation, Chennai Metro Water and Tangedco do not appear to be having coordination meetings to prepare for the NE monsoon, he pointed out.
EPS, Velumani review preparedness
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Minister for Municipal Administration and Water Supply, Velumani took stock of monsoon preparedness, at the secretariat. Officials from Public Works Department were present at the meeting, wherein orders on taking precautionary measures before the onset of the monsoon were issued. The other meeting chaired by Velumani was attended by officials from Corporation of Chennai, local bodies, and other agencies.
During the meeting, it was informed that a 24/7 control room will function at Rippon Building. It will be manned by over 75 persons, and can be reached on toll-free no 1913, 044-2536 7823, 2538 4965, 2538 3694, 2561 9206, or WhatsApp (94454-77662 / 94454-77205).
