Cops to keep watch on houses of evacuees
Police Commissioner AK Viswanathan, who inspected the flood affected areas in the city on Friday, said, “Additional force will be deployed round the clock, monitoring the areas from where residents have been evacuated to relief centres in various parts of the city to prevent possible break-in of locked houses.”

During the last two years, many Chennai residents, who returned from the relief centres after rains have found their houses burgled. The city police personnel on Thursday night were found working along with other rescue agencies, including the Chennai Corporation and made their presence felt throughout the city.
“They were told to actively participate in rescue works apart from their regular policing work,” the police chief said. “Police personnel were on the roads till 2 am on Thursday night and again were back to work on 6 am. We are doing our best,” Viswanathan said.
Netizens had also appreciated the city police effort in helping the people. Apart from the 400 men trained by SDRF, men from all units of the Chennai police were found on the road along with traffic cops in helping the stranded residents and motorists since Thursday night.
