Ministers oversee rain relief works across city
Ministers, including Co-operative Minister Sellur K Raju, Information and Publicity Minister Kadambur C Raju and Environment Minister KC Karuppannan on Saturday inspected the works for draining water and relief measures in the city, even while the Revenue Department released a list of works carried out by the PWD, city Corporation and other departments before the onset of monsoon.

Sellur Raju visited the low-lying areas in RK Nagar, where people complained to him about non-removal of garbage and water stagnation even when it rained for a short period. The Minister assured to look into their complaints.
Kadambur Raju inspected the Otteri Buckingam Canal, Ambedkar College Road besides Nallar Buckingam Canal and Basin Bridge link Road. As the water flow was blocked by railway constructions, he held negotiations with the railway officials to remove the structures and ensured its implementation.
The Revenue Department, in a detailed statement, mentioned the dates of review meetings held by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on precautionary measures for the monsoon. Such meetings were held on September 8, October 9 and 24, before the onset of monsoon, the release said in an apparent denial of charges that the government did not hold such meetings. Similar meetings were held by the Ministers for Revenue, Electricity, it said and added that circulars on the action to be taken had been sent to all the four departments.
Vulnerable areas that could be affected by rains were identified, besides formation of committees for rescue operations, water evacuation and relief.
