S Balachandran, Director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre said that the low-pressure area over Andaman sea was expected to intensify and become more marked in the next 24 hours. IMD had predicted that rain or thundershowers is likely to occur at many places over South Tamil Nadu and at a few places over North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

K Srikanth, weather blogger, said, “The rains are due to the trough formation near Sri Lanka, before the low pressure develops. Depending on the movement of the low pressure area, rains could slow down for the next few days.”

Pradeep John, popularly known as the Tamil Nadu Weatherman, said, “There could be some rains on Wednesday, which may be the last spell from the previous system.”

On the rumours spreading about Cyclone Damrey hitting the Chennai coast, the weather blogger added, “Cyclone Damrey has now weakened into a low- pressure area and moved into the Andaman Sea. Some models are maintaining it as low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal for the next few days, while others are developing this as a cyclone. Next week, there is a western disturbance, which may push the system away from us and there is also a possibility that the high wind shear may hamper development of the system. If the low-pressure turns into an intense cyclone, we may miss the rains."
