Incidentally, Agilan’s parents Anand and Latha too are residents of Kannagi Nagar, but were living on the pavement opposite Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for a livelihood. Police said that the child’s father is a fish cart puller.
On Saturday night, he, along with wife Latha and Agilan, were sleeping on the pavement. The couple woke up and found their son missing. Anand immediately filed a complaint with Flower Bazaar police station.
Police immediately began the investigation and based on a tip-off by an auto driver in Adyar, they traced the child to the resettlement colony in Kannagi Nagar. Police arrested two women - Vanitha (30) and Sabia (40) - and rescued the kid from them. They had planned to sell the kid. Police are interrogating them to find out whether there is a bigger network behind the incident.
This is not the first time that such an incident is happening. In 2016, an eight-month-old child living near Burma Bazar on North Fort road was kidnapped as the parents were sleeping on the pavement.
