Bogus voters: DMK seeks to reopen its plea

Following a mention made about this plea by Senior Counsel P Wilson before the first bench led by Chief Justice Indira Banerjee on Wednesday, a division bench of the Court is likely to hear the plea on Thursday.

DMK represented by its organising secretary R S Bharathi, had contended that during the earlier hearing on a plea moved by DMK seeking to delete double entries, absent, multiple entries, shifted and dead voters, a proceeding from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu was produced stating action has been taken on the representation given by the petitioner for deletion of voters and a total of 45,819 names had been deleted when compared to the 44, 999 voters submitted by DMK.

However, on cross checking the deletion list which was uploaded in the website, on November 21, it is known that still, as many as 5,000 voters have to be deleted, which were in the petitioner’s list submitted on October 23, 2017, the plea said. Also, pointing out that at the time of the disposal of the writ petition, the petitioner party was also under the impression that their grievance had been property redressed.

But now, it has come to light that the details of the deleted voters given by ECI did not tally with the list given by the petitioner, the plea said and added, “Only the numbers were shown by the Election Commission as if action has been taken on the petitioner’s complaint. But the statement made by ECI before the high court is virtually untrue.”
