It is not just the AIADMK, even the principal opposition party DMK has invoked former chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s name to woo voters in RK Nagar.
Attempting to wrest control of the constituency held by the ruling party for 17 years now, DMK working president MK Stalin, who, effectively, was the last big shot to hit the campaign trail on Sunday used the mystery around former chief minister’s death to connect with the voters.
Addressing people from an open jeep, Stalin, accompanied by party candidate Marudhu Ganesh, spent maximum time talking about Jayalalithaa’s death. He held Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, his Deputy O Panneerselvam and VK Sasikala are accountable for the former CM’s mysterious death.
Calling OPS solely responsible for Jayalalithaa’s death, Stalin went on to describe OPS-EPS combine as a “double barrel gun” before including Sasikala and calling them a “triple-barrel gun” accountable for Jayalalithaa’s demise.

Apart from the CM and his deputy, Stalin took potshots at Health Minister Vijaya Baskar and a few other Ministers for the deferment of the bypoll in April. The Opposition leader also questioned the Election Commission and the I-T department for not acting on the raids after rescinding the by-election earlier. “At least they should have filed an FIR after the raids,” Stalin wondered.
DMK allies plan joint campaign
State Congress president Su Thirunavukkarasar will campaign for DMK candidate Marudhu Ganesh in RK Nagar on Monday. He would be the last ally to hit the campaign trail for DMK. MDMK’s Vaiko, VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan and state secretaries of the two Left parties have been traversing through the streets of RK Nagar, mustering support for the “Rising Sun.”
Thirunavukkarasar would campaign in five different points covering divisions 40 and 42 on Monday morning. While newfound friends of the DMK have started canvassing for the DMK candidate, Thirunavukkarasar has been busy attending and celebrating Rahul Gandhi’s elevation as Congress president. Similarly, political parties like VCK, MDMK and CPI will conduct joint campaigns for DMK candidate Marudhu Ganesh on Monday.
With the date for poll nearing, the parties have decided to unite and conduct joint campaigns to seek support. R Mutharasan, state secretary, CPI, said, “Since joint campaign will be helpful to gather votes, we have taken such a decision and we are in the hope that the DMK will win the bypoll.”
