Action against Munisekhar only after Rajasthan cops’ report

The possible departmental action on Kolathur inspector Munisekhar for his misadventure during his trip to Pali district in Rajasthan to nab thieves that ended in his colleague inspector S Periyapandian’s death due to bullet injury will happen only after the Chennai police receive a report on the incident from Rajasthan police, a senior police official disclosed on Sunday.

Rajasthan police had said that Periyapandian had died after bullet accidently fired by Munisekhar

hit him in the operation during wee hours on December 13.

Munisekhar, who had returned to Chennai a week ago, is currently on leave.

Munisekhar had initially claimed that one of the suspects had used his arm, which slipped off from him, to gun down Maduravoyil inspector Periyapandian.

But Rajasthan police later, citing forensic and ballistic reports, noted that the slain officer was shot by Munisekhar.

Chennai police are is yet to come out with an official statement about the incident. The police here had been maintaining that they did not want to comment on an investigation which is being carried out by the police of another state.

Meanwhile, the Anna Nagar district police held an internal condolence meeting on Friday night in memory of Periyapandian.
