Since the gang has particularly targeted techies’ houses, police suspect that someone must have gathered information about the residents’ movement over a period of time.
Software engineer Manikandan (24) of Balaji Nagar, Sithalapakkam, woke up to the sound of his house door being broken on Saturday night. Panicked Manikandan immediately alerted his friends over phone and they rushed to the spot.
On hearing the noise of the people, burglars fled the scene. When Balaji came out, he noticed that the burglars had made similar attempts in eight other houses in the locality, but could not find valuables.
However, another IT professional Dheenkumar (32) of Sithalapakkam, who took his wife to a private hospital on Saturday night and returned on Sunday, was shocked to see his house broken open and eight sovereigns and the LED TV were stolen.
Similarly, Kuberan (30) lost four sovereigns to the gang since he had gone to his hometown. Pallikaranai police, who have registered a case, combed the CCTV footage and found out that four men were behind the burglary spree. While one of them stood outside to look for people, the other three reached the houses with heavy weapons and blocked the CCTV with a cloth before carrying out their plan. One of them has been identified as a temporary security guard who used to collect money from each house every month.
