Policeman beaten up by drunk lawyers

In the latest of incidents of police being attacked for doing their duty, a policeman who was on night patrol on Sunday at Jafferkhanpet, was beaten up by four drunk men, who are said to be lawyers by profession.

Sources said that the incident took place on VN Balakrishnan Street that is next to the MGR Nagar police station. It is said T Nagar Sector police Srikumar questioned four men, who were allegedly consuming alcohol opposite a Tasmac shop. However, the inebriated men claiming to be advocates got into an argument with him. As the verbal duel went out of hand, they allegedly slapped Srikumar and beat him up. 

The passers-by alerted MGR Nagar police regarding the incident. The police team, who rushed to the spot, took the men to the police station. 

During the interrogation, police found out that Raja (24) and Ramesh (33) among the four were High Court advocates while Dhanajayan (28) and Dravidar Periyar (28) are practising law at Chengalpattu district court. After the enquiry, Inspector Devaraju asked the four men to appear in the police station on Tuesday. 

A video of the incident went viral after one of the passers-by who captured it on a mobile phone shared it on social media.
