The accused, Hariharan, a resident of Madhananthapura near Moulivakkam, was arrested based on a complaint by Srinivasan and his business partner Mohammed Fayas. The police said that the businessmen from Periamet approached Hariharan to obtain a loan of Rs 50 lakh. Hariharan told them that the loan has been approved and asked them to pay Rs 1.95 lakh as a processing fee.

However, since he didn’t respond after receiving the money, the duo on suspicion filed a complaint with Periamet police. When Hariharan was secured and interrogated, he allegedly admitted to having cheated many people using the same modus operandi. Police have so far found out that 20 men have been cheated by Hariharan and remanded him in judicial custody. Since he has cheated to the tune of Rs 2 crore, the case is likely to be investigated by the Central Crime Branch.
