Government school students excel in National quiz event

Students of Government Girls Higher School at Thiruvotriyur came out with flying colours as they won the national quiz cum extempore event conducted in Chennai, recently. The selected students along with their teachers had won a three-day trip to New Delhi.
The national event was conducted by Space Kidz India (SKI) along with Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology(SIST) at SIST. Renowned quiz master, Justin Antony conducted the national event.
Speaking to DT NEXT, Justin Antony said that the event was a quiz cum extempore based competition, designed completely on Indian and the International affairs, to predominantly evoke the leadership quality in high school students. The questions in the event were based on basic science, sports, history, literature, UNO, question with clues and also rapid round.
The finale was an extempore in which the students were given one common topic based on what would be the policies that they wish to recommend for the benefit of the people. In the event, Edison from St. John’s Public School, Chennai, bagged the ‘Youth Icon of India Award – 2018’. Vinay Murali Prasad from Velammal Matric, Bodhi Campus, and Pawan from GTV Vidhya Manthir, both from Chennai, won the second and third prizes respectively.
The highlight of the event was the first ever participation in a quiz competition by 15 Panchayat Union Middle Schools and Government Schools. Tamilselvi and Shalini from Thiruvottriyur Government Girls Higher School were outstanding in their way of speech in the extempore round. Apart from their first prize in girls section they were awarded special prizes, including a three-day trip to New Delhi along with their teacher, said Justin Antony.
