According to weathermen, rain is likely for three days. The coastal areas will benefit, under the influence of returning Easterlies from February 6, while the interior areas are likely to benefit from the wind instability, triggered by collision of westerlies and easterlies of different masses. While coastal areas are likely to see light to moderate spells, the interior areas of the state’s Southern region might experience heavy rain, the weathermen said.
“However, chance for heavy rain in Chennai is less as of now, while light early morning rain is a possibility in the city and suburbs during the three-day period,” the experts said. “The rainfall is likely to peak on February 7 and 8 with coastal areas south of Puducherry and places along the Western Ghats are ideally placed to witness the heavier thunderstorms,” said a weather expert.
K Srikanth, a city-based weather blogger, said “Once again, in order to give early start to the farming community, satellite imageries already indicated possible rain over many areas of South India next week. With models being consistent on the cause and effect of the rain, the probability is fairly high for this even on February 6.” He added that rain activities will possibly fade from February 9.
