It was spotted by two children while they were playing near a temple. They picked the bomb from a bush thinking it to be a cricket ball but when they noticed that it smelled of gunpowder, they put it back and informed the villagers.
Soon, the villagers alerted Seiyur police who rushed to the spot and put the bomb in a bucket of water to prevent it from exploding. Later, bomb squad officials arrived and confirmed that the unused bomb was a powerful one. Thereafter, the Q-branch police arrived and shifted it to a stone quarry to deactivate it. Following this, the bomb squad combed the entire village to make sure no other bombs were lying around. Both the Seiyur and the Q-branch police are investigating how the bomb found its way to the bushes.
