Residents of the locality informed the honorary animal welfare officer of the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) P Ashwath about the incident. Following this, he visited Kodambakkam and examined the cattle. According to the local public, the cows were screaming unusually early on Sunday when they were spotted near CRP Garden Street in Kodambakkam.

A few of them noticed the cattle, which were grazing near a garbage bin, running away crying in pain. They later noticed the injuries on four cattle and alerted police personnel and Animal Welfare Board office. Based on Ashwath’s complaint, the Kodambakkam police have registered a case and are searching for the culprits.

Police personnel have also collected CCTV camera footage from the nearby residences and showrooms to trace the suspects who poured acid on the animals. Meanwhile, police personnel have also inquired the cattle owners, who informed police that they used to let the cattle out on the road to graze on the vegetable wastes dumped from the nearby market.
