The victim, Lavanya Janath P (27), a native of Andhra Pradesh, and works in Global Infotech, a software firm in Navalur.  The incident took place when she was returning to her sister (Nisha Jaiganesh)’s place at Perumbakkam after work in the wee hours of Tuesday.

Police believe that while she was crossing Thazhambur-Perumbakkam road, the men intercepted her and hit her with a rod. While she lay unconscious, they dragged her to the nearby bushes, before escaping with her three-sovereign gold chain, an iPhone, a handbag and the vehicle.

Passersby noticed her lying unconscious around 5 am and alerted Pallikaranai police, who sent her to a nearby hospital. With her ID card details, police got in touch with her office and transferred her to a private hospital. She is now critical.

A case has been booked by Pallikaranai police under five Sections and special teams have been formed to nab the attackers. Police suspect that a group of migrant workers could be behind the attack. Lavanya lives in Thazhambur. It may be recalled that on the same date in 2014, Uma Maheswari, a software professional was murdered after being sexually assaulted and robbed.
