While the target was 71 lakh children, the Health Department said that the remaining children will be covered on Monday and Tuesday during the house to house visits. “Polio drops will also be available round the clock at all Primary Health Centres and Government Hospitals,” said Dr K Kolandaisamy, Director of Department of Public Health.
As many as 43,051 booths had been set up in all Primary Health Centres, Government Hospitals, Integrated Child Development Service centres, Noon meal centres, schools and other important places across the state, besides 1,652 transit booths in major bus stands, railway stations, toll plazas, check posts and airports. This apart, 1,000 mobile teams were also formed to administer polio drops to children living in remote, inaccessible and migrant areas.
It may be noted that due to successful implementation of Pulse Polio Campaigns, the state is entering its 14th polio free year and is working towards sustaining the polio free status and protecting the children from any possible transmission of a wild polio virus.
