Pleasant weather for one more week: Meteorology Department

There is only less than a fortnight left for March to end, but weather in Chennai is yet to become hot by summer standards that the city is familiar with. Even though maximum temperature has gone up to 35 - 36 degree Celsius, the city residents have been saved by heavy Easterlies, said weathermen, adding that this would last till the end of March.

Although the beginning of March witnessed rise in temperatures, the weather in the city remained cooler than usual, both during the day and night times.

“Since March, Chennai and some parts of suburbs have been recording high-level moisture with low level humidity, factors that led to reduction in heat,” said a weatherman at the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai.

Speaking to DT Next, SB Thambi, deputy director general of meteorology, said, “This is mainly due to high level breeze from the land. However, temperature can shoot up in the beginning of April and it will reach its peak in May and June.”

The same climate condition was prevailing over South and Central India, noted the official. When asked about possibility for rainfall, the weather expert responded, “it will be premature to predict the rain pattern.”

S Krish, a city-based weather blogger said, “March has already witnessed two coolest nights after a decade, and around 10 days recorded minimum temperature of 20 and 21 degree Celsius respectively.”

The bloggers pointed out that the pleasant weather would last till the end of March since the sky would be partly cloudy. The minimum and maximum temperatures would be 20 and 35 degree Celsius respectively.
