The constables had claimed that they were trying to kill themselves as they were upset over their transfer to Ramanathapuram without any reason.
“Both the constables A Raghu (28) and J Ganesh (28) of Theni AR, who attempted to commit suicide on Wednesday at around 5.45 pm in front of DGP Office Main Gate, have been arrested and remanded in custody on Thursday.
The arrests were made based on a complaint given by sub inspector Raja, attached to Marina police station. A case was registered under various sections including those for trying to commit suicide, handling combustible materials in a rash way endangering others’ lives, endangering life or personal safety of others, criminal intimidation and criminal conspiracy, said police sources.
The duo had raised serious charges against AR inspector Srinivasan in Theni district, alleging that his casteist activities and his apparent hatred towards other castes, including the downtrodden, was responsible for their plight.
However, their allegation was denied by Theni district police superintendent V Baskaran.
