According to NCB zonal director A Bruno, the suspects were trying to traffic ketamine drug to Kuala Lumpur by air.
The contraband weighing 14.6 kg was concealed in seven plastic packets in two bags. Following the instruction from their ‘handler’ from Tondiarpet, the accused were travelling from Bengaluru to Chennai, said NCB, adding that further investigation was on.
Ketamine, psychotropic substance, is a popular party drug in East Asian countries. Sources said ketamine white crystals cost just Rs 50,000 per kg in India but the same quantity could fetch up to Rs 10 lakh in the international market.
Because of this price difference, it is popular among smugglers, sources added. Ketamine is veterinary anaesthetic included in the most restricted schedule drug category, and its illegal possession and trafficking is an offence punishable with a jail term up to 20 years, NCB officer noted.
