Residents said the two Thenupuri Eswarar and Mellieswarar temples in the locality were fully surrounded by garbage, making it difficult for devotees to visit these shrines. They said the officials had been intimated quite a few times.
The residents said some of the roads in their locality were not properly laid and repair had not been happening for a while. Usha Sunder of Padmavathy Nagar extension said, “The garbage collecting rickshaws came only once a week. The garbage collected is not disposed properly. Instead, it is thrown into the lake, the cemetery and other unused plots.”
Immanuel, a senior official of the Madambakkam town panchayat said a plot at Keerapakkam had been allotted for garbage disposal. “We will soon receive the official order from the Collectorate. Temporarily, we are disposing garbage at cemetery. The issue should be solved soon.”
