Heat normal, but humidity makes it unbearable in city
After a brief respite, Chennai is feeling the heat due to high humidity levels even though the temperature is normal – between 35 and 36 degrees Celsius.

Weathermen at the Regional Meteorological Centre said Chennai would witness high temperatures next week due to the influence of Westerlies. They said the southern parts of the state would receive moderate rain in the next two days.
Weathermen said even though similar temperatures were recorded in the previous days, the humidity was low then. “But things have been different in the past two days. The weather causes a lot of perspiration and can cause discomfort,” an RMC official said.
The southern parts of Tamil Nadu had been getting rain in the past two days. “The thunderstorm season in south Tamil Nadu continues and Wednesday saw moderate to heavy rain lashing parts of Madurai, Virudhunagar, Theni and Kanniyakumari districts, while parts of Tirunelveli received light rains,” the official added.
K Srikanth, a city-based weather blogger said, “While the northern parts of the state are reeling under a heat wave-like situation, the south is getting rain. The models indicate that chances remain high for temperature to increase in the next week.”
The weather stations at Chennai airport and Nungambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 35.2 and 34.5 degrees Celsius respectivelyon Thursday.
